Dancing Queen

So we knew that Iris could dance. She's demonstrated her stellar skills often around our house. But this past weekend we attended the wedding reception of some very good friends, and she got down! Once the music started pumping, her little body started groovin', and she rocked the dance floor until the DJ was done. At one point, she even busted out some crazy break dancing moves she's apparently been practicing in secret for just such an occasion as this. We'd certainly never seen them before! I wanted to get some video footage, but it was too dark, and so I only have pictures - which don't quite do her dancing justice. I promise you, though, she was awesome!

I love her uninhibitedness - her willingness to just get out there and go to town (where can I find some of that?).

She was so sad when the dance was over. Her first question as we were leaving was "Can we come back tomorrow?". I think we may have a bonafide dancer on our hands. She must get that from Todd because the one place you would never willingly find me is on a dance floor......

Todd's list of things to do for 2008:

1. Teach eldest daughter how to break dance.

2. Demonstrate mastery of her skills by practicing at a wedding reception.

3. Advance her skills by teaching her the fine art of (as well as the importance of) disco dancing.

So far so good...

I LOVE her dancing (and her dress looks lovely. . .wink, wink!). If only there were a video. Do you think you could get her to recreate her moves for you?

By the way, my kids WERE singing about pirate chickens who wanted to disco. . . An eerie coincidence?

I LOVE when kids dance! My aunt took her kids home as soon as the dancing started at my wedding, and I was so disappointed. They add something that no adult could ever accomplish! For Iris, I hope she always loves to dance! There's freedom in dancing (I'm thinking about putting that on a t-shirt!)

Between Iris and Adah, maybe there will be a breakdancing revival in the midwest? If only I could find a place that gives real lessons, not that Nate's lessons aren't real, but some technical training would help. :) By the way, you won't find me on the dance floor either even after years of dancing in high school and college!

Em-Thanks for the compliment on the dress. We got it from some little girl with good taste.:) And the pirate chickens who disco is coincidental on many levels considering Iris' current obsessions with pirates AND dancing....could it be genetic?

Lisa-I'm so glad we brought her. It's not something I would typically do because I'm pretty strict about bedtimes etc..., but she had so much fun it was worth the late bedtime! I need to find the freedom that comes with dancing. I tend to be too self-conscience(?). However, I'm all over the slow dances!:)

Hope-Maybe Adah and Iris can host the first ever preschooler break dancing contest! How funny would that be?

She did get down. And I didn't witness one bit of shyness. She not only got down with those around her, but she danced her little heart out with her daddy which was just precious. Todd's got some stellar moves.
I have to say that the picture that Addie and Matt got of you and Todd dancing is a great one.

Love Iris' great dance moves.
Todd has 2 cousins getting married
in 2009 on my side-Amber-Jan 10 & Kelly-end of June.
It would be great if Iris would
do a repeat performance if you
could come to one.
